Urbanie & Urbanus
Issue 2024 Aug
Contemporary urban design thinking
Editor’s Note
This is the 10th issue of the U+U Journal since its establishment in 2019. As the number of issues grows, so too does the depth and richness of the papers, matured through contributions from international academic and industry professionals, consultants, developers and students.
The urban condition continues to evolve as it is tested by conflict and a global economic downturn, as well as the evolving needs of everyday users. These temporal and functional influences help shape the city's characteristics and identity. As a result, the city becomes a reflection of its users and inhabitants, training us how to operate within its system and structure, while establishing its own image and perception within varied spatial settings and contexts.
In this issue, we have compiled graduate theses from Master students at four different universities in Hong Kong, as a review of the current focal points in teaching and learning, particularly in the field of Urban Studies and Urban Design. Rather than providing particular solutions for our cities and environments, we have focused on the process of creating better places.
We hope that the papers in this issue from these future young professionals will serve as stepping stones for their and our future, prompt discussion and remind us of important aspects and topics that may have been overlooked.
